Lecturer presents award to best student in Mathematics


A lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and alumni of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo Dr. Kehinde Adenegan has presented an award in form of trophy and cash prize to the overall best student in Mathematics for 2015/2016 Academic Session.

h August, 2017 at Mathematics departmental library of the institution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Adenegan went down the memory lane, bringing back to history, the time he was a student of the department under the immediate past Dean, School of Science, Dr. Folorunso Balogun who really worked as one of his mentors and under whom he developed more interest in Mathematics.
He went further that since he had assumed duty as a lecturer in the department in year 2006/2007, the idea of rewarding overall best students in mathematics had been in his mind with the aim of encouraging them to develop their interest in the course. He declared that he passed through Adeyemi as a student and that Adeyemi passed through him from where he maid a first class honours in Mathematics. “The maiden edition of the programme is what we are witnessing today and the award is entitled catch them young” he said. The award, which is going to be annual, is targeted at new students (100 level) to motivate and sustain their interests in the course.
In his own address, Mr. Adebanjo Ipinlaye, a lecturer in the department and former Head of the Department urged the immediate past Dean School of Science who also doubles as a father of the department to extend the kind gesture to other levels apart from 100 level students and that other lecturers can also embrace the gesture.
In his own speech, a former Dean of Science and Chairman, Committee of Deans of the Institution, Dr. Balogun disclosed that the ceremony was meant to reward and reinforce best students positively and urge others to put more efforts since mathematics requires a constant practice. He said further that good grades and qualifications are not just enough but good character which has earned Dr. Adenegan his present position as the Acting Director Management Information Systems of the College. He also advised the students to defend whatever grade they had.
The overall best student Farimoyo Kehinde Olasunkanmi, 200 level student in the department garnered a total cumulative Grade Point of 4.66 in the previous session and was presented a trophy and a cash prize of N10,000.
Reacting to the development, the awardee, Mr. Farimoyo appreciated God Almighty for the grace bestowed on him to have emerged the overall best and appreciated Dr. Adenegan for his positive encouragement. He promised that the award will challenge him to sustain his grade till final year and ensure to be of good character.
Represented at the occasion were the immediate past Dean of Science and a lecturer in the department, Dr. Folorunso Balogun, Dr. Akeem Ganiyu, Assitant Director OAU Linkage, lecturers in the department, staff from Information and Public Relations Unit, staff from Management Information Systems (MIS) and students from the department
